Our Prolong HM team began the shower repair by carefully removing the tiles and wall lining around the bath. This gave us clear access to the supporting timber frame. Several sections had deteriorated after prolonged exposure to moisture and could no longer provide reliable support.
We removed the affected timber and rebuilt the frame using sound materials. The new structure was measured and fitted closely around the bath, creating a stable base for the wall lining and replacement tiles. Why install new finishes over damaged timber? Without a strong frame, movement can crack grout, loosen tiles and allow water to return.
Waterproofing and Tile Installation
Once the frame repairs were complete, we prepared the bath surround for waterproofing. The exposed surfaces, corners and junctions received a continuous waterproof membrane. Particular attention was given to the area where the bath meets the wall because this joint receives regular splashing from the shower.
We then measured and cut the tiles to suit the existing bathroom layout. Each tile was adjusted around the bath perimeter, wall corners, tap outlets and shower screen position. Accurate fitting helped us maintain practical grout lines while blending the repaired section with the original brown wall tiles. The finished surround now looks consistent with the established character of the room rather than appearing like an unrelated patch.
Caulking and Final Sealing
After the tiles were secured and grouted, we completed the caulking with flexible bathroom grade silicone. Silicone was applied along the bath edge, internal corners and other movement joints. These sealed connections help stop water from travelling behind the tiled surface while allowing slight movement between different materials.
